DTCWV Young Lawyers are collecting new and gently used children’s books for
pre-K to 5th Grade reading levels
to donate to Read Aloud West Virginia.

The DTCWV Young Lawyers are collecting new and gently used children’s books for pre-K to 5th Grade reading levels to be donated to Read Aloud West Virginia for the annual DTCWV Young Lawyers Book Drive. Read Aloud West Virginia’s mission is to change the literacy culture of West Virginia by keeping reading material in the hands and on the minds of West Virginia’s children. Read Aloud works to motivate children to WANT to read. All of the collected books will be donated to Read Aloud to allow the organization to best decide whether our donations will go to schools, its “free tiny libraries” project, or other programs in need. Read Aloud has provided us with a link to a Wishlist, which includes books specifically requested by children as their “wish book.” Using the following link, you can purchase books for the children and have them sent directly to Read Aloud West Virginia.

For the last few years, the Young Lawyer Committee’s goal has been to collect a stack of books taller than our impeccable executive director, Peggy Schultz. Because of your efforts, we were able to exceed our goal, and, while we will continue to measure our success in Peggy Schultzes, we hope to collect more books this year than we did each of the last few years. The deadline for donations is Tuesday, January 31, 2023. We are requesting firms volunteer to be book drop-off sites in Martinsburg, Beckley, and Wheeling. The following firms have volunteered as drop-off sites for donations:
  1. Oxley Rich Sammons PLLC – Huntington
  2. Shuman McCuskey Slicer PLLC – Morgantown
  3. Steptoe & Johnson, PLLC – 1250 Edwin Miller Blvd., Suite 300, Martinsburg
  4. TBD – Beckley
  5. Dickie McCamey, 2001 Main Street, Suite 501 – Wheeling
  6. Shuman McCuskey Slicer PLLC – Charleston
