DTCWV 40th Annual Meeting Registration

On behalf of the Board of Governors of
Defense Trial Counsel of West Virginia,
we cordially invite you to

The Greenbrier White Sulphur Springs June 8 – 10, 2022

Reunited! And it feels so good....

As the pandemic continues to ebb (although not quite abate), we begin to return to some semblance of normal. To celebrate our return to an in-person annual meeting – as well as DTCWV’s 40th year - we have worked hard to put together an excellent group of presenters and panelists on a broad range of topics. We invite you to join us in person at one of the most special locations in our beautiful state, The Greenbrier, in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia, this June 8, 9 and 10.

You won’t want to miss new West Virginia appellate judges Tom Scarr and Dan Greear provide the most recent update on the new Intermediate Court, which will begin work just a few weeks after our meeting. Chief Justice John Hutchison also will provide an update on the recent work, initiatives and plans of the Supreme Court of Appeals of West Virginia. DTCWV’s superstar lobbyist, Danielle Waltz, will provide an update on West Virginia’s most recent legislative enactments – as well as perhaps a glimpse of what to expect in the near future. Coverage expert Michael Sampson will discuss the evolving landscape of cannabis law and cannabis insurance coverage developments. Damon Hewitt, President and Executive Director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law – a civil rights organization founded in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy – will provide an update on civil rights litigation and legislation. A.L. Emch, DTCWV Past President and one of West Virginia’s most preeminent attorneys, will discuss the value of lifetime learning for litigators. Oliver Luck, former WVU standout quarterback, past NCAA Executive Vice President of Regulatory Affairs, and Cofounder of Country Roads Trust, will provide an overview of the quickly changing legal landscape applicable to college sports, and the challenges facing the NCCA.

And, since social distancing is relaxed, we will have several amazing panels, including a panel of corporate representatives to help explain the diversity, equity and inclusion expectations that our clients have of our firms; a presentation by a pair of financial planners on financial planning and preparing for retirement; a presentation on lawyer and law student wellness; as well as a stand-out panel of DTCWV Past Presidents to discuss 40 years of this great organization and 40 years of change in the litigation climate of West Virginia.

For R&R, we offer our annual Golf Tournament, or you can choose from any of the wide array of activities offered at The Greenbrier, from horseback riding to four wheeling to fly fishing and many more. Our Thursday evening banquet offers excellent food and fellowship for all, with the high-energy and incredibly talented band Rick K. and the Allnighters immediately afterward. Wear your dancing shoes to this black-tie optional event! Networking opportunities abound throughout the meeting with our customary slate of receptions, mealtime gatherings, and sponsor presentations. And when you see a sponsor – please take a moment to thank them and discuss their work, as we could not present such a top quality event without their support.

We look forward to seeing you and yours at the Greenbrier Resort this June!

DTCWV President
